About Us
At Sweet Steps Learning Centre, our educators are professionals who are advocates for early childhood education. We are passionate, supportive and responsive to all children and families, building positive relationships with all children to allow them to develop a sense of independence.
We provide and promote equal opportunities for all children, whereby no child is discriminated against on grounds of class, gender, race, religion, ability or additional needs.
Sweet Steps employs a director with 20 years of working experience in an early childhood environment and who holds a Bachelor’s degree in Family Relations and Child Development. We employ teachers with Certificate III in Children’s Service or related fields in Early Childhood Education and employ teaching assistance as needed, who must have at least a high school degree and experience in early childhood care.

Philosophy
Sweet Steps Learning Centre is committed to meeting the developmental needs of all young children. The theoretical framework of Erickson, Piaget and Vygotsky provide the guide around the curriculum, which is designed to facilitate each child’s social, emotional, physical, language and cognitive development.
The program’s philosophy is based on the following concepts:
Providing a nurturing “home-like” environment where all children feel a sense of belonging
Providing a safe, hygienic, aesthetically pleasing environment
Valuing the uniqueness of each child. No two are the same, each having individual needs, developing in their own unique ways at their own pace
Children construct their understanding of their world through active involvement and interaction with people and material.
Play, exploration and experimentation are the major vehicles for learning
Children benefit from making choices in a stimulating and age appropriate environment
Children learn best in an environment which promotes acceptance, trust, initiative and decision-making
Curriculum
Sweet Steps Learning Centre offers a comprehensive curriculum that supports and enhances all areas of children’s development: social-emotional, intellectual, language and physical. Based on the belief that children learn best through play, the curriculum reflects the guidelines established by the National Association for the Education of Young Children in its “Developmentally Appropriate Practice Position Statement”.
The curriculum for each child is based on a partnership between families/parents and teachers. Families/parents and teachers use both formal and informal means of gathering information about the children’s interests, needs and assessing each child’s skills and knowledge. With this information, families/parents and teachers set goals for each child. Modifications are made to the curriculum to support all children’s learning opportunities, including those who live with a disability or who have special needs.
